from "The Laurel Messenger", May 1961, Page 6, by Eber Cockley: Sebastian Caquelin arrived in Philadelphia 16 Sep 1736 on the ship "Princess Augusta". The signatures in Strassberger Hinke ship records (Pennsylvania German Pioneers, pg 156, Vol 2), of Sebastian and his sons, Dietrich and Jean, reflect expert penmanship. One of the family, Sebastian Jr., age 22, died on the voyage. The ages listed in the ship record are 50 for the father, 20 for Dietrich, 17 for Jean, and 3 for Jacob. The daughters were Mary (married Boger), Catherina (Married Jacob Ditzler, a passenger on the ship), Sara ( married Brechr). THe estate record at reading, PA dated 1751, verifies the above children as heirs, their property in Cocalico being deeded to a Zimmerman family. "Walderbach" of "Waldersbach" is an area in the Palatine (Southern Germany) locally designated as the Ban de la Roche (by the French) or Steinhal by the Germans. Waldersbach is about 35 miles south and west of Strasbourg. Napoleon made this region a part of the Department of Bas-Rin, with the Prefecture at Strasbourg. |
