Notes from Mrs. Henry S. Cocklin and the Cocklin Church and Graveyard Association of Cumberland Co., PA:
Jacob came with his father, Sebastian Cocklin on the ship Princess Augustus when he was three years old, arriving in PA in 1736. On May 18, 1772, Jacob acquired a piece of property in Cumberland CO. in what was then Allen Township; this purchase made jointly with his nephew, John (son of Dietrich) and a friend, John Beelman. This was recorded under the name Cocklin, the first time this name was used. A small piece of ground was reserved on this property as a burial ground. See Deedbook C, Vol1, page 428 (1768-1774). This ground is now cared for by the Cocklin Church and Graveyard association, which was founded in 1912 and incorporatedby the County Court. Both Marie/Mary and Jacob are buried in these grounds.
In 1772, came to Cumberland County from Lancaster, and purchased Spring Dale farm.
